Amazing isn’t it how our minds work?
I actually think that they do not work because the negative thoughts that cloud our mind on a daily basis are not of God. Even a mind as great as Mark Twain must have been plagued with doubts as he stated in this quote” I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
I have an overly active imagination and tend to think way ahead of what is happening so that I can plan on how I will respond because I do not what to look like an idiot, but I tend to imagine the worst thing is what will happen. Maybe you have heard sayings like:
- “I tend to hope for the best, but imagine the worse“
- “I just won’t get my hopes up so that I won’t expect too much or get disappointed.”
Does this sound like you? Even if you do not say it you tend to think it, but that is they way of the world that we live in, that does not mean that we have no hope though. Paul shared with us in Romans 12:2, the best defense.
Romans 12:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
So what does renewing the mind mean? I believe that it means that in order to renew the mind you have to read your Bible, listen to positive music, watch a good movie that makes you feel good. I do not believe that you have to cut yourself off from the world in order to find this haven of peace that we long for, because Jesus didn’t. I do, however, believe that if we continue to put garbage into your mind what else can you hope to get back?
Joy to you,
